Job Description

As a key member of our Payroll Team, you will be responsible for the complete, accurate and timely preparation and processing of our in-house hourly and salary payrolls. This includes preparation of all government remittances, cheque requisitions, reconciling payroll and benefit accounts as well as year-end processing.

What you will do:

•Responsible for the weekly processing of full cycle bi-weekly payrolls, following the ICFR process.

•Work with payroll designates in each department/location to ensure information is transmitted and received timely and accurately.

•Update and verify payroll transactions.

•Provide payroll processing backup for other payroll team members.

•Record and ensure accuracy transfers for employees between departments and proper allocation of wages.

•Ensure all court ordered maintenance and garnishments are processed and remitted accurately.

•Coordinate paid benefit programs such as safety shoes, work apparel, union leaves, and other programs as required.

•Responsible for all payroll and benefit payments and deductions in all assigned payrolls.

•Reconcile and submit government remittances, completion of quarterly and/or year-end reporting, T4/W2 processing, taxable benefit calculations and ROE’s.

•Provide support for monthly tax updates.

•Reconcile and prepare monthly benefit billings for payments.

•Assist in the administration and coordination of benefit programs and implementation.

•Deal with general inquiries, questions and concerns from employees regarding payroll and benefits.

•Responsible for the administration of the time and attendance system including training and guidance to the time and attendance designates and continuous improvement opportunities to ensure accurate payroll/benefits accruals.



Preferred Skills



•Post-secondary education in Payroll, enrolment in or completion of the Canadian Payroll Association PCP program or an equivalent combination of education and experience

•Three to five years related experience in payroll

•Experience processing a full cycle in-house multistate and/or multi provincial payroll for 500+ employees

•Strong customer service orientation and excellent written and verbal communication skills

•Ability to work under strict deadlines; proven organizational, problem solving and analytical skills

•Advanced knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office

•Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and to converse in a professional manner and collaborate with all levels of the organization

•Ability to work with minimum supervision and possess initiative to seek improvements

•Motivated self-starter with capabilities to work within a fast paced team oriented environment
