Position Summary:

As a key member of the New Product Development Department (NPD), you will be responsible to oversee all mechanical product development activities at NPD including the supervision and performance of the assigned engineering team members. You will be accountable for the timely completion and accuracy of assigned engineering tasks at all phases from the design stage to its implementation to production.

What you will do:

  • Strategizes, evaluates, develops and executes innovative mechanical technology and architecture integration.
  • Directs mechanical integration and development activities to ensure new product lines are developed, validated and introduced to enhance New Flyer’s product line and assemblies.
  • Plans and executes mechanical integration on a project basis with project definition, scope of work, schedule, prototyping and validation plans.
  • Reviews engineering designs in consideration of the organizations strategic goals and return on investment.
  • Creates business plans and value propositions with regards to new and existing mechanical technology.
  • Effectively communicates and works with other engineering teams and departments to meet goals and timelines.
  • Provides engineering support to production, quality assurance, customer service support and other departments.
  • Develops and mentors engineering team members, monitors performance.
  • Interacts with vendors and customers on design related issues.

Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (or eligible to be registered) is preferred
  • Seven years of design related experience in a heavy-duty manufacturing environment
  • Proven leadership and project management experience, achieving high performance teams
  • Strong organization and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Motivated self-starter with high level of initiative
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills using creativity, critical thinking and reasoning
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers, working well within a team environment.
