Job Description

As a key member of the Human Resources leadership team, this position is responsible for the implementation of all Human Resources functions including recruitment and selection, employee and labor relations, policy development and implementation, internal communications, training and development, performance management, as well as workplace safety and environmental programs and processes.


What you will do:

  • Provides leadership within a team environment with specific responsibilities for Human Resources.
  • Responsible for the implementation of organizational policies, programs and procedures to improve effectiveness of the organization and the Human Resources function.
  • Responsible for the identification, development and implementation of operational policies and procedures.
  • Manages the recruitment and selection process to ensure that open positions are filled in a timely manner and within budget.
  • Develops the organizational structure for the Human Resources Department to ensure that both company and departmental goals and objectives are met. This includes staffing, selecting, orienting and training of Human Resources team members.
  • Develops and leads a process where training and development needs of employees can be achieved.
  • Participates in labor relations discussions pertaining to grievances and arbitrations and provides leadership and guidance in the Collective Bargaining process to ensure employee concerns are addressed in a timely and effective manner and that leadership maintains consistency and conformance to the agreement and develops a professional working relationship with bargaining unit representatives.
  • Manages day to day salary and benefits administration programs and monitors fairness and equity of such programs.
  • Promotes an organizational structure which supports the company vision and core values.
  • Ensures that leadership maintains consistency and conformance to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and develops a professional working relationship with bargaining unit representatives.
  • Manages legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable Human Resources requirements. Maintains knowledge of and ensures compliance with Provincial and Federal Laws and Regulations.
  • Responsible for compliance with respect to intra-company immigration issues within the Transit Bus Business.
  • Responsible for planning the HR team’s departmental budget.


Preferred Skills

  • Post secondary education in a related Human Resources field is preferred or a relevant combination of education and experience
  • Requires at least five years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and to converse in a professional manner and collaborate with all levels of the organization
  • Motivated self-starter with capabilities to work within a fast paced team oriented environment
