 Position Summary:

As a key member of our Human Resources department you will provide support to the organization in areas of attendance management, disability and claims management in the coordination of occupational and non-occupational accident/injuries including all aspects of the claims management system and return to work programs as well as employee/labor relations in a union and non-unionized environment. Responsible to continually improve New Flyer’s Claims management performance through the development and implementation of programs focused on prevention.

What you will do:

  • Lead the administration and coordination of occupational and non-occupational illness and injury with providers including WCB, STD, LTD and MPIC claims. Facilitate appropriate interventions for safe and timely re-integration into the workplace.
  • Accurately complete and submit all documentation for claims processing and status changes in monitoring systems.
  • Act as a point of contact for claims management related inquiries for employees and management.
  • Provide guidance regarding disability management issues and employee claims status.
  • Facilitate training for the claims management system and return to work programs.
  • Liaise with the medical community, WCB, MPIC, STD/LTD provider on claim information and return to work coordination.
  • Report and track claims management; create and distribute reports as required.
  • Work closely with employees and management to coordinate and assist in facilitating early and safe return to work opportunities for employees, utilizing the return to work accommodation program.
  • Lead and coordinate programs and services related to disability, health and wellness education to support and focus on trends of claim types, benefit costs and industry standards.
  • Ensure training of all leadership on the disability claims management, return to work and attendance management programs, including development of training material.
  • Work with leadership and unions to promote good employee relations in support and achievement of attendance and claims management programs and strategies.
  • Provide advice and guidance to employees and leadership in areas of employee and labor relations, harassment/conflict and progressive discipline issues.
  • Provide support to the recruitment and selection process in areas of job postings, scheduling and participating in the interviewing and selection process, reference checks.
  • Liaise with other facilities to ensure program consistency and standardization of programming.

Preferred Skills

  • Certificate in Human Resources, Certified Disability Management Professional, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three to five years’ experience in a Human Resources role with a strong focus on Disability Claims Management
  • Advanced knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills are essential
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers and work well within a team environment
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and posses initiative to seek improvements
  • Motivated self-starter with capabilities to work within a fast paced team oriented environment
