New Flyer Industries – North American’s leading manufacturer of Heavy-Duty Transit buses in the U.S. and Canada is looking for a Field Technical Technician in the eastern US service region dedicated to our customer Boston/MBTA located in Boston, MA also if needed in other areas in the north east.

Position Summary:

As an important position in our Boston Service Organization and reporting directly to the Regional Project Support Manager. You will be responsible for the overall technical product support of assigned fleets. This includes in-field technical investigations with suppliers on component issues, document and communicate on the status and details of the technical issues using the designated format, being compliant with company policies, assist in Warranty situations, gathering product failure information and/or using the customer data base.

What You Will Do:

  • Understands the New Flyer Core Values as a guideline for conducting all New Flyer business within and without of the New Flyer Organization.
  • Understands and organizes ECN/EAD information that spills into the field, provides technical insight into our product as needed. Performs Diamond 1 investigations upon request.
  • Review ITS’s for technical or practicable errors, perform ITS’s trials.
  • Maintain and be able to utilize a tool set sufficient to do repair work on New Flyer buses, (wrench sizes up to and including 1”, etc.).
  • Writes technical summary reports as assigned.
  • Gather and communicate data on field technical issues.
  • Communicates general information on product reliability to the RPSM.
  • Communicates effectively to leadership through regular phone calls, electronic communications (e-mail) and technical reports.
  • Writes PPT presentations communicating details of technical issues when requested.
  • Completes standard documents, such as expense reports and travel authorization correctly.
  • Reports customer complaints quickly.
  • Arranges travel at least two weeks in advance as per New Flyer travel policy. Travel to WPG as assigned.
  • Reviews iBus website regularly.
  • Other duties assigned.


Preferred Skills

  • Strong mechanical and electrical background is required, Technical college or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the transit industry and products
  • Heavy duty mechanical experience, Electrical/Electronic troubleshooting required
  • Advanced knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Advanced problem solving, and analytical skills are essential
  • Ability to converse in a professional manner in both written and verbal communication
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and possesses initiative to seek improvements
  • Motivated self-starter with capabilities to work within a fast-paced team-oriented environment
