 Position Summary:

As a team member, you will support all aspects of charging equipment that interact with the New Flyer Xcelsior CHARGE battery-electric bus. You will become an industry recognized expert in vehicle charging systems and power management.

What you will do:

  • Evaluate new Plug-in and Opportunity Chargers (OEM and Models) to determine interoperability with the bus, through specification evaluation, and interoperability testing.
  • Work with Charger Suppliers to understand features, functionality and installation requirements.
  • Create and release Charger Checkout Procedures and Operational Procedures.
  • Release part numbers for validated Chargers.
  • Perform Failure, Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for Charging Process, Plug-in Charging and Opportunity Charging.
  • Maintain Matrix of Charger Features and Specification List.
  • Facilitate meetings with Charger Suppliers during the design, installation and field service phases, to document and identifying risks and resolutions.
  • Support bids team with identifying Charger Specifications which best meet Customer requirements, and necessary write-ups.
  • Support and document onsite Testing and Commissioning of chargers at Customer sites.
  • Support Bids, Sales, Supply, CPM, Field Service and Customer with charging related questions.
  • Performs Engineering calculations and analysis to ensure compliance with design criteria and all applicable regulation.
  • Completes controlled testing of components and installations in order to meet contractual obligations, ensure product reliability and verify component fit.
  • Completes Engineering drawings and release documents in accordance with engineering procedures.
  • Represents New Flyer on technical committees (SAE, OppCharge, CharIN, APTA, EPRI_) to provide OEM leadership and feedback to forthcoming standards and related commercial/technical business impact.


Preferred Skills

  • Electrical Engineering degree required.
  • Construction project management and electrical coursework completed.
  • 3+ years of related industry experience.
  • Highly knowledgeable of electrical power and transmission principles.
  • Ability to read and comprehend engineering and construction documents.
  • Familiarity with electrical code and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with electrical, civil and other construction related measuring devices and equipment.
  • Project Management
  • Applying knowledge and judgement to properly execute approved engineering plans.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Up to 15% travel anticipated
